Divisional Round Playoff Predictions

What's that? Ah -- Playoffs? Don't talk about -- playoffs?! You kidding me?! Playoffs?! I just hope we can win a game! Another game! -Jim Mora, 2001

Everybody loves Mora's Playoffs tirade, yes?! Every year as playoffs near I randomly yell "Playoffs! Don't talk about playoffs!" 10 years later and I still think it's hilarious.

Well, the playoffs are here. Wildcard weekend is over and to everyone's surprise the Broncos beat the Steelers. Kelly, darlin', I'm so sorry. (She's a Steelers fan. She's hurting right now). Please know that most of the world is saying WTF right along with you.

Let's make some predictions for this weekends games, shall we?

NO @ SF,  Saturday 4:30 ET

I'm pretty pumped to watch this game. And not just because I'll be looking for Hutch in the stands, but because it should be a really great game. It's no secret the Saints are good, but I don't know if anyone was expecting the 49ers to be here at the beginning of the season.
My Pick: NO by a field goal

DEN @ NE,  Saturday 8:00 ET

What? Maybe Tebow does really have some sort of divine relationship with the big guy. I really don't know how else to explain this. Last week during the Denver Pitt game the husband of one of my favorite ladies tweeted this:

Funniest thing I heard all day. No way they make it past the Patriots though.
My Pick: Pats by 14 (at least)

HOU @ BAL,  Sunday 1:00 ET

I'm going to be honest here, I don't remember watching one Texans game all year. I'm sure I did, I just don't remember it. Due to QB injuries throughout the year I ended up with TJ Yates as my 2nd QB in one of my fantasy leagues. Rough, I know. But I also had Rodgers so I ended up taking home the Championship trophy, but I digress. The Ravens are rested and ready after their bye week.
My Pick: Ravens by one TD

NYG @ GB,  Sunday 4:30 ET

What to say about this? You know I'm not picking the Giants. No way, no how. Yes, our defense leaves a lot to be desired. But, they can also make some spectacular plays. I have no doubt we get at least one pick 6. Silly Manning, you can't beat us. Rodgers and our offense will be ready. This is gonna be fun.
My Pick: GB by 10

So what do you think? Are my predictions accurate?

  1. I'm actually happy with your predictions, are you surprised? I don't necessarily think they're accurate but the more people not expecting the Niners to pull off the "upset" (still funny to me seeing as the niners are the #2 seed), the better. I like going on with lowered expectations. The high after beating the Lions, Giants and Steelers was addictive and I hope to feel it again, in person, this weekend!

  2. the Packers one better be true! :)

  3. I would have to agree with your predictions- except for the niners-but like Hutch, I kind of like them going in as the underdog. Personally I will be happy either way since my favorite player of all time is Drew Breezy but my hubs loves the Niners and they were my dad's team growing up.

If the Donkos beat the Pats, I may never be able to watch SportsCenter again....the other night, I noticed there are 7 items on the left hand side of the screen letting you know what is coming up...4 of them were TEBOW, not the Broncos, or the the playoffs in general: 4 of them included the name TEBOW. I should mention this was all while they were TALKING ABOUT TEBOW..Look, I know it was a crazy game, but COME ON! How much can you really say about him!?! Hey media, can we please MOVE ON?!?! We get it already....

  4. Cathy - thank you for the shout out... you're right I am hurting. Probably not as much as the Steelers are, but I'm finally coming to grips with the loss. Mostly I'm OK because well... we weren't at 100% man power and that's the bottom line. Darn Tebow!

I'm liking your predictions and I think they are fairly dead on. I'm not sure about the Texans vs. the Ravens but I know Ravens and their fans, they don't go down without a fight so the Texans better hold on to their hats for that game, for sure!

I know this will make you feel good - and it might be shocking to some Steelers fans since Green Bay knocked us for a loop last year at the Super Bowl but I love me some Aaron and I want to see them get to the big game again... even if it means shafting us for the most SB wins. It's a great team, a great organization and they deserve it.

Not to say that others don't... it's a tough sell for me between NOLA and GB - because I like and respect both teams so either way I"ll be happy if they make it to the big dance!!!

  5. I would love to disagree and say I thought the Giants would win...but Manning sucks and they haven't got a shot against the Packers. But I'm happy we got to go to the game on Sunday...the only one we've been to all season. It was great and we had so much fun. That will help to cushion what I'm sure will be a stunning defeat this weekend.

  6. I agree. Although I'm with Shana in that I really wish that wasn't true about the Giants...simply because I have a heart-on for Cruz and his little salsa dance in the in-zone. And when he does it, I visualize he's dancing for me. Dance, puppet, DANCE! ahem...sorry...anyway, I think you've accurately called it. And Kelsey is so wrong...and yet...so right.
